The Sulk of Post-Sepoy

IMG_0993

after breakfast we took a walk,
through fields of locust
and dehydrated patches of stilt grass,
we found a limpid ravine.
sugarcane and black plastic bags,
women bathing,
water buffalo and chicken,
children playing in the sun.
isolated groups of burning rubbish,
twinkling twirling doodle bells,
red blue white green
faded bleached blowing in the breeze.
one-legged dog filth
fleas and scabs
broken back labor
hauling trunks to keep the night light.
patchwork rice fields
german cobble stone paths
motorbikes mingle
spit spewing smoke and soot.
sari and black hats dance in the streets
ceremony of the trumpets' gazal
beauty only lonely birds mimic.
